The Senate on Thursday summoned the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Olarenwaju Onadeko, to appear before its Joint Committees on Judiciary and Tertiary Education over the “outrageous” tuition at the institution.
The Senate’s decision was sequel to a motion sponsored by Senator Shehu Sani, who expressed concern over what was termed the outrageous tuition, which he said is becoming unaffordable to the children of the downtrodden Nigerian masses.
Sani said if the astronomical increase in the tuition fee of the Nigerian Law School is left unabated, the Nigerian child, in the future, would not be able to afford legal education.
Senator Sani said: “The Nigerian Law School is becoming unaffordable to the children of downtrodden Nigerian masses due outrageous tuition fee of about N295,250.00 for central registration and N20,000 as other charges levied on prospective students, excluding a laptop computer, which each student must possess.”
The Senate in its resolution urged the Federal Government to increase funding to the Nigerian Law School.
Meanwhile, the Senate has urged the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency take steps to not only check the increasing population growth rate in the country, but also seek measures to reverse the trend.
