VICE chairman of the Senate Committee on States and Local Government Administration, Senator Buruji Kashamu, has thrown his weight behind the anti-corruption fight of President Muhammadu Buhari, geared towards sanitising all sectors of the country.
Kashamu said this while fielding questions from newsmen, shortly after a reception organised by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his honour, with a member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Adesegun Adekoya and members of the Ogun State Assembly, over their victories at the Court of Appeal, held at Omo Ilu Transformation Hall, Ijebu-Igbo, on Saturday.
The lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial district in the upper chamber, contended that patriotic Nigerians, irrespective of political affliations must support the move by the current Buhari administration to stem the tide of corruption in Nigeria.
He, therefore, called on Mr President not to be selective in fighting the menace, which according to him, had eaten deep into all spheres of human endeavour in the nation.
Kashamu said the moves by President Buhari, was a clear indication that he was out to cleanse the system for the country to progress.
The lawmaker said,”It is in the light of the foregoing, that we, as patriotic Nigerians, must rise above ethnic, religious or even political persuasions, and support every genuine initiative meant to address corruption and redirect our national life; after all, government is a continuum.
“Therefore, we must all work together to build a strong parliament, an upright police force, independent judiciary, a free press, a vibrant private sector and a robust civil society.”
He commended Buhari’s administration for introducing Treasury Single Account (TSA), as one of the steps to nip corruption in the bud, saying that the initiative had reduced corruption by 30 per cent.
The lawmaker equally identified Bank Verification Number (BVN) as introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria, under the previous administration, as another way of addressing corruption.
“President Buhari is not a president of APC. He is the not the president of PDP. He is the president of the masses and the whole of Nigeria,” Kashamu asserted.
