The Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, has announced plans to build a recreation park in the Ebute-Meta area of the state to boost tourism.
Ambode ordered that the auto mechanics on the land around the Adekunle area of the Third Mainland Bridge vacate the place so that work could begin in earnest.
The governor spoke on Monday during the inauguration of Ipaja-Ayobo and Ikotun-Ejigbo roads, as well as the inspection tour of some other projects across the state
He gave the mechanics a seven-day ultimatum to vacate the site and remove abandoned vehicles for the development project to commence.
“All things being equal, the project will be completed before the end of May 2017, when Lagos State will be 50 years-old,” he added.
The governor, who also ordered traders in the area to move to the special site prepared for them in Agbowa, said the land was needed in the overall interest of the state.
While at Ipaja, where he inspected the just-completed Ipaja-Ayobo Road, Ambode promised to commence construction works on Ishefun-Ayetoro Road, assuring residents that Alimosho would soon be transformed as well.
He appealed to the residents to monitor the projects to ensure their sustainability.
He said, “As much as we have kept our promise and delivered even before the projected day, residents should also maintain good use of this road and cooperate with the government as we extend development to this neighbourhood.”
Ambode later inaugurated the Ikotun-Ejigbo Road, where he told residents that streetlights would be installed from the Ikotun Roundabout to the Isolo Campus of the Lagos State Polytechnic, within three months.
While inspecting the construction work on Brown Street, Oshodi, the governor said work on the project, which commenced about six weeks ago, was over 40 per cent.
He said residents in the area would enjoy its benefits when completed.
After being briefed by the Executive Secretary of the Oshodi Local Government Area, Adeola Dawood, on the challenges of the adjoining Igbehinadun and Inasa streets, Ambode ordered the Public Works Corporation to rehabilitate both streets within seven days.
